Sara was born and raised in Salisbury, MD, having graduated from James M. Bennett high school in 2003. She attended Towson University and earned her BS in health science, concentrating on community health. She stayed in that area for a couple of years after graduating to work with adults who had developmental disabilities to access community and employment resources for increased independence. She decided to move back home to the Salisbury area in 2009 and attended the University of Maryland Eastern Shore to earn her master’s degree in special education. She taught as a special education teacher in the public school system for 10 years, then decided to step back to a part time position to be home with her young daughters. For the past year and a half, she has worked in Sussex County, DE with youth as an outpatient therapist. She is excited to get to work with students in an environment that allows more creativity as well as the opportunity to learn, move, and grow at their own independent pace. Her husband and three daughters are very supportive of her decision to get back into education, especially with Active Minds!
